Council of EU reaches agreement on 8th package of sanctions against Russia
The Council of the EU reached an agreement on the 8th package of sanctions against Russia.
"EU High Representative Borrell spoke about the new, eighth, package of sanctions. Now I am happy to inform you that the ambassadors of the European Union and COREPER [Committee of Permanent Representatives] confirmed the agreement on this package a few minutes ago," Czech Minister for European Affairs Mikuláš Bek announced on behalf of the Council during the European Parliament meeting in Strasbourg, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
During the European Parliament’s plenary session on Wednesday, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that the Council of the EU had reached an agreement in principle on new sanctions against Russia.
As Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the EU Arnoldas Pranckevičius reported, the next package of EU sanctions against Russia includes oil price caps, new bans on the import and export of steel, wood, machinery, aviation, plastics, chemicals worth 7 billion euros, as well as sanctions against new individuals and legal entities and companies involved in the war with Ukraine.
