US and Ukraine fighting for common goals for over a year - Zelensky
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with a delegation of politicians, businessmen and representatives of charitable organizations from the United States, led by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Zelensky thanked the United States for its continued support for Ukraine.
The relevant statement was published on the president’s of Ukraine website, Ukrinform reports.
"Unfortunately, the war has been going on for more than a year now, and we are glad that the United States is by our side and fighting for common goals with us. We feel both bipartisan support and support from the White House," the president emphasized and thanked the entire American people for their assistance.
Welcoming the delegation to Kyiv, the President of Ukraine said about the importance of such visits and meetings which are a powerful signal of support for Ukrainians in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
"I am glad to see that you have come with your friends," the president said, addressing Mike Pompeo, "The comprehensive American support is extremely important for us".
During the meeting, Zelensky invited American businesses to actively invest in Ukraine, noting that the state is open for cooperation and ready to provide investors with full assistance.
He informed about opportunities for business development in the spheres of construction, agriculture, IT technologies, etc.
The President also emphasized the importance of continuing and strengthening defense assistance and joint development of defense technologies, taking into account the experience gained by Ukraine during the war.
"Invest in business because business is what creates jobs. We are interested in people finding jobs and the budget receiving revenues to strengthen our capabilities on the battlefield," Zelensky summarized.
The meeting also discussed several other current issues, including Ukraine's movement towards NATO and the importance of further strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia.
Zelensky also pointed out that activities of American charitable organizations focused on helping displaced people, rebuilding destroyed housing, providing medical care, and providing drinking water and food to those who need it most.
As reported, the Southeast European Cooperation Initiative (SECI) suggests that the amount of potential investment in Ukraine's recovery - spread over many years - could amount to several trillion dollars.
