Ukraine calls on parties to conflict in Sudan to prevent further escalation
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is following with deep concern the ongoing escalation of the situation in Sudan and condemns the violence that has already resulted in a large number of human victims.
The ministry said this in a statement on Monday, April 17, according to Ukrinform.
"We call on both sides of the conflict to exercise restraint and to maintain a balanced approach in order to prevent further escalation of the confrontation and prevent casualties among the civilian population," the statement said.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that only within the framework of a peaceful, inclusive dialogue it is possible to achieve a common vision regarding ways to realize the fundamental interests of the Sudanese people, namely to build a democratic, prosperous society.
According to the statement, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the Ukrainian Embassy in Egypt maintain contact with Ukrainian citizens in Sudan and keep the issue of ensuring their security under special control.
On April 15, after several days of tension between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), explosions and gunfire rang out in Khartoum. The clashes erupted after tensions over a proposed transition to civilian rule.
