Ukraine embracing NATO model of defense procurement - Cabinet

The procurement of weapons and military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be entrusted to the Defense Procurement Agency. The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted the resolution designating the Agency as a government actor for the Ministry of Defense.

This was reported by the government press service, Ukrinform saw.

"The agency that we created in 2022 has been separated from the Ministry's office, which allows minimizing corruption risks. This decision brings the Ministry of Defense one step closer to the implementation of NATO standards and procedures, will contribute to the efficient utilization of budget funds, and shorten the timeframe for the delivery of goods for the Armed Forces," the press service quotes the Minister of Defense, Oleksii Reznikov, as saying.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Defense Denys Sharapov noted that from now on, the centralized procurement of goods, works, and services intended for the implementation of government programs in the field of national security and defense will be ensured by a single national agency. According to him, within the limits of the funds provided, it will make purchases based on the needs determined by the Armed Forces.

Currently, the Ministry of Defense is engaging partners from the UK, Norway, and the NATO Support and Supply Agency to help develop the Defense Procurement Agency's work mechanisms and conduct an assessment of its services’ compliance with NATO standards.
