Russia sentences Crimea activist Osmanov to 20 years
The activist from the Crimean Solidarity NGO Ansar Osmanov was sentenced by the Rostov-on-Don court to 20 years in prison in the Hizb-ut-Tahrir organization case.
This was reported by Crimean Solidarity on Facebook, Ukrinform saw.
"The Southern District Military Court sentenced Crimean Solidarity activist and father of five Ansar Osmanov to 20 years in prison. This is two years more than the prosecutor requested and the first such term in the cases of Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Crimea," the report says.
It is noted that he is supposed to spend the first five years in prison.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ansar Osmanov, Marlen Mustafayev, Ernest Seitosmanov, and Amethan Abdulvapov were detained by Russian security forces on February 9, 2022. They were accused of alleged involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir – an Islamic political organization, which is recognized as a terrorist cell in Russia, but operates legally in Ukraine and most countries.
Ansar Osmanov actively attended the illegitimate "trials" targeting Crimean Tatars in temporarily occupied Crimea and the Russian Federation. He was previously detained after these hearings.
