Zelensky signs Decree on Russian lands historically inhabited by Ukrainians

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine signed off the Decree on the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians.

He announced this in a greeting address on the occasion of Unity Day on January 22, Ukrinform reports.

"Today we must take steps not only to strengthen the unity of Ukraine and our people, but also to act for the unity of rights and freedoms, the truth about Ukrainians, the truth about us and the truth about our history. To this end, today I signed the decree ‘On the territories of the Russian Federation historically inhabited by Ukrainians,’” said the president.

According to Zelensky, this is about restoring the truth about the historical past for the sake of Ukraine's future.

The decree has not yet been published on the president’s website.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, Ukraine annually marks Unity Day on January 22, in honor of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic in 1919.

Congratulating Ukrainian citizens on Unity Day, President Zelensky announced he was submitting to Parliament a draft law to introduce multiple citizenship in Ukraine.
