Organization of American States joins Peace Summit communique
The Organization of American States (OAS) has joined the communique of the first Peace Summit held in Switzerland on June 15-16.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on X, Ukrinform reports.
"One more signature for the first Peace Summit communique. The Organization of American States joined the document. I am grateful to the OAS, an important regional organization that brings together 32 states from South and North America and its Secretary General Luis Almagro for supporting global efforts to restore the UN Charter's full strength," Zelensky said.
According to him, the communique of the first Peace Summit is being signed by an increasing number of states and organizations, demonstrating its global significance.
"The document reinforces respect for international law's fundamental norms, which protect all peace-loving nations. We continue to encourage everyone to join our global efforts that promote equality for all nations, bring a just peace for Ukraine closer, and provide opportunities for global leadership," Zelensky added.
The Summit on Peace in Ukraine was held on June 15-16 in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock. The summit participants discussed nuclear security, food security and the humanitarian dimension - the exchange of prisoners and the return of kidnapped Ukrainian children.
The communique remains open for accession by any nation.
The results of the Peace Summit will be handed over to Russian representatives.
Antigua and Barbuda joined the communique on June 19.
