In Mariupol, invaders set to “nationalize” abandoned cars if owners fail to show up by July 1
In captured Mariupol, the invaders say they will nationalize all abandoned cars if their owners don’t pick them up by July 1.
That’s according to an advisor to the Mariupol mayor, Petro Andriushchenko, Ukrinform reports.
"Mariupol. Cemetery of abandoned cars. Occupiers say that, if their owners fail to show up by July 1, their vehicles will be nationalized," Andriushchenko wrote.
He noted that at the same time there were "hustlers" who refer to themselves as "volunteers", who evacuate vehicles from the city for a certain reward.
"A typical win-win for the occupiers. Either the owners come from Ukraine-controlled areas and thus join a local mobilization and labor reserve or the fleet of cars of the so-called ‘DPR’ will be replenished. Or else, people close to the Donetsk occupation authorities will make money off of this. The only ones in the red are the people of Mariupol,” the mayor’s advisor concluded.
Russia's aggression provoked one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes in Mariupol. The city has been almost completely destroyed by enemy shelling and bombing.
Today Mariupol has no stable energy, water, and gas supplies. Since Russian invasion, up to 22,000 civilians have been killed in the city. More than 100,000 civilians remain in the temporarily occupied city.
Mariupol is currently on the brink of environmental and epidemiologic disasters.
Russian invaders declared Ukrainian collaborator Konstantin Ivashchenko "mayor" of Mariupol and are now working to create for the media a picture of "city life reviving."
