Russia fires cluster munitions on residential quarters of Mykolayiv
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) project, which investigated photos and videos of the shelling aftermath.
"It should be reminded that the use of multiple launch rocket systems and cluster munitions in residential areas can be regarded as an indiscriminate attack and, accordingly, a war crime," the CIT said.
On the morning on March 7, the local department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that the Mykolayiv had been fired with Smerch multiple launch rocket systems. At least one person was killed. The Service started to remove mines from the territory after the shelling.
The Russian military already used cluster munitions during shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities (Kharkiv, Okhtyrka). Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called it a "false report."
On February 24, Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops are shelling and destroying key infrastructure, conducting massive shelling of Ukrainian towns and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launcher systems, and ballistic missiles.
Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.
Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
