War update: Ukraine repels over 45 Russian attacks in past day
That’s according to an evening update by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Ukrinform reports.
"The enemy continues to focus its main efforts on conducting offensive operations in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Maryinka directions. Thanks to the coordinated action of our Defense Forces and the heroism of each individual soldier, more than 45 enemy attacks were repelled on this day," the report reads.
According to the General Staff, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Maryinka remain at the epicenter of hostilities.
The Ukrainian Air Force carried out five strikes on Russian manpower and equipment clusters. Defense forces also shot down a Russian reconnaissance drone.
Rocket and artillery troops, for their part, hit an enemy weapons cluster.
Throughout the day, the Russian army carried out three missile and 17 air strikes, as well as more than 20 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems, on the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces and civilian infrastructure of populated areas.
The likelihood of Russian missile and air strikes on Ukraine remains high.
According to the General Staff, the operational situation has undergone no significant changes in the Volyn, Polissia, Sivershchyna, and Slobozhanshchyna directions as no signs of enemy offensive groups being formed were spotted. Certain units of the Belarusian armed forces continue to perform their routine tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
Russia continues to use the airspace and territory of Belarus, as well as its military infrastructure. On the Belarusian training grounds, Russian forces are undergoing training.
Russian units maintain presence in the areas of Kursk and Belgorod regions bordering Ukraine.
Over the past day, Zapsilya and Myropillia of Sumy region, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Zybine, Volokhivka, Rublene, and Vilkhuvatka of Kharkiv region were subjected to Russian shelling.
Kamianka, Petro-Ivanivka, Dvorichna, Kutkivka, Zapadne, and Masyutivka in Kharkiv region, Krokhmalne in Luhansk region, as well as Terny and Serebrianka in Donetsk region came under Russian shelling in the Kupiansk direction.
In the Lyman direction, the invaders undertook unsuccessful offensive efforts in the areas of the Nevske and Serebrianske forestry. Makiivka, Nevske, and Bilohorivka of Luhansk region, as well as Vesele, Spirne, and Rozdolivka of Donetsk region suffered from enemy artillery strikes.
In the direction of Bakhmut, Russian troops are trying to take full control of the town, continuing to storm it. In the vicinity of Orikhovo-Vasylivka and Ivanivske, the Russians ran offensive operations – with no success.
"In the past day, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repulsed nearly 20 enemy attacks on the specified section of the battle line," General Staff said.
Vasyukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Novomarkove, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, Ozaryanivka, Dachne, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Zalizne, and New York of Donetsk region were subjected to enemy shelling.
On the Avdiivka and Maryinka axes Russian troops launched unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Severne, Pervomaiske, and Maryinka. At the same time, the enemy struck Avdiivka, Vodiane, Severne, Netaylove, Pervomaiske, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, and Pobieda in Donetsk region.
Throughout the day, the Russian army has conducted no offensive operations in the Shakhtarske direction. To spot their artillery fire, the Russians actively employed drones.
Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka, and Vremivka of Donetsk region came under enemy fire.
In the Zaporizhia and Kherson directions, Russian troops ran no active operations, building up defense capabilities. At the same time, the invasion forces shelled settlements located along the contact line, including Olhivske, Hulyaipole, Charivne, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka, and Kamianske in Zaporizhia region, as well as Kherson.
It has been established that in the temporarily captured Skadovsk district of Kherson region, the Russian pseudo-government is compiling lists of local residents who agree to "evacuate" to Crimea or Russia.
According to the General Staff, the "evacuation" will so far be carried out on a voluntary basis as primarily women and children will be transported out of the area.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russian troops stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders 23 times over the past day in the Avdiyivka and Maryinka directions, as well as in the area of Karlivka, Donetsk region.
