More than 280 people still missing in Kyiv region - Nebytov
Andriy Nebytov, the head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Kyiv region, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Since the de-occupation, 1374 bodies of our compatriots have already been found. According to experts, 717 people were killed with firearms. Unfortunately, 191 bodies remain unidentified. 281 people are missing," Nebytov said.
He noted that 15 mass graves have been discovered in the Kyiv region, and three places of torture have been identified.
The head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Kyiv region described the process of identifying the bodies of the victims. According to him, immediately after receiving information about the discovery of a body, an investigative team with mobile forensic laboratories arrives at the scene. A dog handler and explosive experts will examine the area in case of detection of explosives or possible mining of the body. Nebytov noted that at the next stage, forensic experts are involved to make a description of the clothes and items on the deceased. He clarified that the police are trying to identify the victim based on these features.
"Next, forensic experts work on a mandatory basis - they take DNA based on the investigator's decision, which is placed in the relevant database. Then the alleged relatives provide their DNA profile, and a comparative examination begins," Nebytov said.
He assured that the police currently have enough human and technical resources to conduct such examinations.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, last year, military operations in the Kyiv region lasted more than a month. 15 communities in Vyshhorod, Bucha and Brovary districts were seized by the Russian army. The Ukrainian Defense Forces gave a worthy rebuff to the enemy. As a result, on April 2, 2022, it became known that the region was liberated from Russian invaders.
