Polish MiG-29 aircraft may appear in Ukraine in about six months, depending on the timing of their replacement with new American F-35s.

This was stated by former Polish Minister of National Defense Janusz Onyszkiewicz in a comment to Ukrinform.

“The transfer of the remaining Polish MiG-29s to Ukraine will depend on the schedule of delivery of F-35s to Poland, which are to replace them. I think it may take about six months,” the expert emphasized.

Assessing the security agreement signed recently in Warsaw between Ukraine and Poland, the expert called it good, as it has “significant practical and political significance.”

In May, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces Wiesław Kukuła informed that the first F-35 aircraft would appear in Poland in August.

As reported, the security agreement between Ukraine and Poland was signed on July 8 in Warsaw by President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. It provides, in particular, for “consideration of the possibility of transferring a MiG-29 squadron without prejudice to Poland's security and the operational capabilities of the Polish Air Force.” At the time, during a press conference in Warsaw, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine was counting on these post-Soviet aircraft, which had been modernized to NATO standards. In turn, Tusk said that he did not know the exact date of their transfer to Ukraine, as they are still performing missions in NATO airspace.
