War update: 171 combat clashes in past day, Kurakhove axis hottest

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook, Ukrinform saw.

"A total of 171 combat clashes were recorded in the past 24 hours," the report says.

The invaders launched five missile strikes involving 13 missiles, as well as 65 airstrikes involving 130 glide bombs on the positions of Ukrainian units and at populated areas. The enemy also launched more than 4,500 artillery strikes, including 169 rocket barrages.

Russian airstrikes targeted the areas of the Tovstodubove, Svarkove, Yunakivka, Shalyhine, Oleksandria, Myropillia, and Yastrubshchyna in Sumy region; Kivsharivka and Mali Prohody in Kharkiv region; Hrekivka and Tverdohlibove in Luhansk region; Toretsk, Sukha Balka, Bohoiavlenka, and Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region; and Temyrivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, and Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia region.

Kharkiv axis: the General Staff informs that the Russian army stormed the areas of Vovchansk and Starytsia 11 times in the past day.

Kupiansk axis: 28 enemy assaults were reported in the past day. Ukraine’s defense forces repelled the offensive moves near Kucherivka, Novo-osynivka, Hrushivka, Pishchane, Hlushkivka, Lozova, Kruhliakivka, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, and Vyshneve.

Lyman axis: the invaders attacked 16 times – they tried to wedge themselves into Ukraine’s defense lines near Hrekivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Zarichne, and Torske.

Kramatorsk axis: the occupiers attacked three times – in the areas of Kalynivka, Stupochky, and Predtechyne.

Toretsk axis: Russian troops, supported from air, carried out nine attacks near Toretsk, Dachne, and Shcherbynivka.

Pokrovsk axis: Ukrainian defenders held back 26 assault and offensive actions of the invaders in the direction of Novotroitske, Myroliubivka, Promin, Krasny Yar and Krutyi Yar. The greatest focus of enemy attacks was seen near the settlement of Selydove, the General Staff noted.

Kurakhove axis: the Defense Forces repelled 40 attacks. It is reported that the occupiers most actively tried to advance in the areas of Novodmytrivka and Heorhiivka. In addition, the enemy attacked in the direction of Kreminna Balka, Tsukuryne, Novoselydivka, Kostiantynivka, Antonivka, and Katerynivka.

Vremivka axis: Russian troops carried out two assaults on Ukrainian positions in the Rozdolne and Bohoiavlenka areas, also actively employing assault and bomber aircraft.

Orikhiv axis: the invaders attacked toward Mala Tokmachka.

Prydniprovia axis: Russian troops tried five times to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions, but were forced to retreat, having suffered losses.

Volyn and Polissia axes: no signs of enemy offensive groupings being formed were spotted.

In the border areas within Chernihiv and Sumy regions, the Russian army keeps firing off artillery and launch airstrikes targeting Ukrainian settlements.

The General Staff said the raid into Russia’s Kursk region is in progress. Enemy aviation continues to attack its own territory with guided aerial bombs. Sixteen airstrikes have been launched involving 23 glide bombs. The enemy also launched 191 artillery barrages.

The Ukrainian military inflicts significant losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying forces and actively undermines the offensive potential of the enemy in the rear.

Over the past day, Ukraine’s Air Force and missile and artillery units hit 20 enemy manpower and equipment clusters. Also, an UAV control point, an artillery system, and a field ammunition depot were destroyed.

As reported, Russia’s total war casualties as of Oct 16 have amounted to an estimated 672,850 (killed or wounded), including 1,450 in the last day.
