A schoolteacher who helped direct Russian drone strikes against Ukrainian defenders in Kherson has been sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

That is according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ukrinform reports.

The woman was acting on behalf of Russian military intelligence, commonly known as the GRU. The SBU exposed her activities in October 2024.

Investigators found that the teacher used a messaging app to pass the coordinates of Ukrainian military positions to a GRU contact. He was identified as the commander of a UAV operators' unit within the 186th Reconnaissance Battalion of the Russian military group codenamed "Dnepr."

The woman first came to the attention of Russian intelligence services after posting pro-Kremlin comments in Telegram channel chats.

After being recruited, she traveled around Kherson on foot and in her own vehicle, photographing locations where Ukrainian personnel and military equipment were concentrated.

She compiled the collected information into intelligence reports and sent them to the Russian serviceman in the form of photographs of potential targets marked on Google Maps.

The investigation established that Russian forces used the intelligence she provided to carry out large-scale attacks on Kherson, including kamikaze drone strikes.

During searches of her residence, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones and computer equipment containing evidence of her cooperation with the enemy.

The court found her guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code – high treason committed under martial law.
