PM Shmyhal announces first round of talks with EU on speeding up customs tariffs lift

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says that the first round of negotiations between the Ukrainian and European sides on accelerating the abolition of customs tariffs in bilateral trade would launch in September.

The statement came following a meeting with European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine's political and economic integration with the EU is gaining new momentum. In particular, in the context of discussing the revision of the objectives of the Association Agreement and further trade liberalization. I’m confident that the first round of talks on accelerating and expanding the scope of customs tariffs lift in bilateral trade in accordance with Article 29 of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement will be held in September," the prime minister said.

According to Shmyhal, dialogue on concluding an agreement on conformity assessment and acceptance of industrial products (ACAA) has also gained momentum.

Also, in his opinion, it is symbolic that on July 15, the EU reopened its borders to Ukrainian citizens after a pause caused by the pandemic.
