Ukraine starts developing plan for reconstructing communities affected by Kakhovka HPP blast

This was reported by the press service of Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, according to Ukrinform.

As noted, a survey of local self-government bodies regarding the needs of the communities affected by the Kakhovka HPP blast is currently underway. All information is sent to international donors and partners, who together with the Ukrainian government will provide the necessary assistance.

"This is necessary in order to understand the real needs for the restoration of water supply, water disposal, heat supply, as well as the reconstruction of healthcare facilities and housing. The main priorities are providing the population with drinking water, essential goods and medicines in sufficient quantities. Then, there will be the reconstruction of critical, social and transport infrastructure, so that residents of the affected areas can return to their homes. We are currently collecting data on urgent measures - until the end of 2023, measures that need to be implemented in the short term – in 2024-2025, and long-term measures – in 2026-2030," said Oleksandra Azarkhina, Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.

As reported, the government has allocated over UAH 980 million from the Fund for Liquidation of the Consequences of Armed Aggression to pay compensation for houses damaged or destroyed by the flooding in Kherson region.
