Most difficult summer period in energy sector is over - Ukrenergo
This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, at a briefing, Ukrinform reports citing the company's Telegram page.
According to him, "we have every reason to expect that the most difficult period of the summer is over. We have had a very difficult couple of weeks and now the situation has really improved. This is primarily due to the fact that the absolutely abnormal, record-breaking heat has finally subsided. This has resulted in a reduction in electricity consumption. And, of course, this is also due to the fact that certain power generating facilities have been repaired - long-awaited and important for the power system - which certainly adds to our capacity and reduces the deficit."
"In some hours, the deficit may be smaller, in some - slightly larger. And in some hours, we even have the opportunity not to impose any restrictions on electricity consumption," Kudrytskyi said.
As reported, Russian massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure resumed on 22 March 2024. As a result, 80% of thermal generation capacity has been lost. In total, the government estimates the loss of generating capacity at 9 GW. The power grid will remain undercapacity for two years.
Electricity consumption restrictions have been in place in Ukraine since May.
Ukrenergo expects the situation in the power system to improve in late July. September and October may go by without power cuts.
