Crimean Titan plant stores 200 tonnes of ammonia: expert assesses blast risks
Yevhen Khlobystov, Professor at the Department of Ecology of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, coordinator of the Crimea Platform expert network, said this on the air of the national marathon, Ukrinform reports.
He noted that the invaders looted valuable equipment from the Crimean Titan, and currently there is only one workshop that keeps producing nitrogen fertilizers.
"Two hundred tonnes of ammonia are stored there. If there is an explosion, a deliberate detonation of containers with ammonia, people in the industrial zone, that is, on the territory of the facility, can be very seriously injured. There will be an immediate risk to the lives of the employees at the enterprise," Khlobystov noted.
According to him, since ammonia is light and rises quickly, there will be no deadly threat to the residents of the surrounding settlements. They should stay indoors for several hours, not open the windows, and drink more water.
Khlobystov noted that the facility has a pond where chemical production waste is stored. "If there is an explosion in it, there will be many more victims," he added.
The expert noted that the Crimean mass media, which are completely under the Kremlin control, do not report such risks so Crimean residents remain unaware.
As reported, the Presidential Representation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea stated that production processes at the Crimean Titan plant in the town of Armiansk in temporarily occupied Crimea had been disrupted to a critical level.
