The Verkhovna Rada has appointed Denys Shmyhal as Ukraine's deputy prime minister and minister for communities and territories development.
A total of 278 people's deputies voted for a respective resolution at a parliament meeting on Tuesday, with at least 226 votes needed to make a decision, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said from the parliament's rostrum: "Here is this man. I recommend him to you and I ask you to appoint him as Ukraine's deputy prime minister and minister for communities and territories development. Why? It's very simple. Because this person understands perfectly how the region works. He is a great manager."
On August 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Shmyhal head of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration.
