President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine discussed with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida a range of security issues and thanked him for his country’s comprehensive support.

The head of state spoke at a joint press conference with the head of Japan’s government in Kyiv on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The key issue we discussed was security. I thanked Fumio for the very important support to Ukraine in security, economic, political, sanctions, and humanitarian aspects," Zelensky said.

The president emphasized that every package of Japanese support for Ukraine is an investment in the rules-based international order.

"We discussed Russia's ongoing efforts to intensify its aggression, and accordingly discussed urgent security needs. We agreed to continue the dialogue on expanding security cooperation," the head of state added.

According to Zelensky, negotiations with Japan’s PM are of particular importance both for both nations and for global security in general, as Japan currently chairs the G7, also being a member of the UN Security Council.

"The ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the international order has provoked threats and risks that the world has not witnessed in decades. And we are working with our partners to prevent different nations in different parts of the world from having to suffer the brutal consequences of Russian aggression for decades to come, such as destabilization of international relations, social chaos and even provoked mass starvation," the Ukrainian said.
