Today, it is important not to hand over the peace initiative to Russia, because Russia's vision of ending the war was demonstrated on the day of the invasion - it is the occupation of Ukraine.

This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrinform reports.

"It is important not to give up the [peaceful] initiative to Russia, because the Russian initiative, its vision of ending the war, was demonstrated on the day of the invasion. Their vision is the occupation of our country," Zelensky said.

The President of Ukraine believes that the very fact of the first inaugural Peace Summit, which will take place on 15-16 June in Switzerland, will be a success.

"The very fact of holding such a summit is already a success. It will not mean peace and the end of the war. Unfortunately, this is the way. But we will go through it. I am confident in it. We will achieve peace, and this is the first step. It is very important. We already know the parallels - meetings are being organised at various levels in Russia to build some other initiative. Therefore, our meeting is a success," Zelensky said.

Also, according to the President, it is important that this initiative is not taken away by any state, "because it will not be fair, because we have the war."

"At the same time, I will emphasise once again, we are very open. If we want to unite a large number of states, we need to hear them," Zelensky said.

As reported, the Global Peace Summit will be held in the Swiss town of Burgenstock on 15-16 June. It is expected to be attended by representatives of more than a hundred countries from all continents.
