Zelensky on G7 summit: We expect signing of security deals with U.S. and Japan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reports.
"Today is the Group of Seven summit in Italy, a meeting of our biggest partners. A large part of it will be devoted to Ukraine, to our defense and economic resilience. And we are waiting for important decisions today," Zelensky said.
According to him, the main topics for Ukraine at the summit will be developing the fighter jet coalition, optimizing pilot training, speeding up the delivery of aircraft, building Ukraine's air defense system based on the most powerful Western systems and expanding long-range capabilities, as well as approving the format for the use of Russian assets for Ukraine's benefit, particularly for the development of the Ukrainian defense industry and the joint production of weapons.
"Today I will take part in a meeting of the Group of Seven and hold a series of bilateral meetings: with the host of the summit, the head of the Italian Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, Prime Ministers Justin Trudeau of Canada and Rishi Sunak of the UK, European Council President Charles Michel and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. During meetings with U.S. President Joseph Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, we will sign bilateral security agreements. The document with the United States will be unprecedented," Zelensky said.
He also added that a year ago, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 adopted the Declaration of Support for Ukraine.
"Today, within this Declaration, we are signing the last two security agreements with G7 members. The Ukrainian people and our soldiers see that the G7 is forever with Ukraine. I am grateful to our partners for believing in us and our victory," Zelensky added.
The G7 summit will be held on June 13-14 in Italy, which chairs the Group of Seven this year.
