Ukraine urges Bulgarian politicians not to use topic of war for political goals

The embassy said this in a statement published on its Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.

"The Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria calls on all officials and all political forces in Bulgaria to refrain from using the topic of war for political purposes," the diplomats said.

They emphasized that Ukrainians pay the most terrible price every day for restraining the aggressor.

"Calls to limit or block aid to Ukraine practically mean an inducement to support the aggressor state. Slowing or limiting the provision of necessary aid to Ukraine will not lead to peace, but to more casualties and the front approaching the EU borders. Instead, increasing defense aid to Ukraine will contribute to strengthening security throughout the region, restoring respect for international law and bringing a just peace closer," the embassy said.

It added that only through joint efforts the world community can and should force the aggressor to stop the war of aggression and restore peace. "Security can be restored only through joint efforts," the diplomats said.

At the same time, they said that Ukraine highly appreciates and is grateful to Bulgaria, the National Assembly and the government for the adopted decisions in support of Ukraine and for all the political, financial, energy, humanitarian and defense practical assistance provided.

 "This is a significant contribution to our joint victory, a confirmation of historically friendly Ukrainian-Bulgarian relations and mutual assistance in difficult times," the embassy said.

Acting Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev earlier said that Sofia could provide Ukraine with about EUR 80 million in aid if this decision is approved by the parliament. At the same time, the leader of the country's largest party, GERB, Boyko Borisov and the head of the parliamentary group "Movement for Rights and Freedoms," Delyan Peevski, spoke against such a decision.
