The meeting between senior U.S. and Russian officials to discuss a possible agreement on ending the war in Ukraine and prepare for a Trump-Putin summit will take place on Tuesday in Saudi Arabia, two sources with direct knowledge said.

That's according to Axios, Ukrinform reports.

The U.S. delegation will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House national security adviser Mike Waltz and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

It was not immediately clear who would be in the Russian delegation. One source said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is likely to attend.

Witkoff told Fox News on Sunday that he and Waltz will travel to Saudi Arabia on Sunday night. Rubio will arrive in Saudi Arabia on Monday after a visit to Israel.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference that Ukraine had not received an invitation to the meeting. However, Trump told reporters on Sunday that Zelensky "will be involved" in negotiations at a later stage.

Reuters reported that Rubio arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday ahead of the expected talks. Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that the talks would take place on Tuesday in the Saudi capital Riyadh, citing unnamed sources.

Riyadh, which is also involved in talks with Washington over the future of the Gaza Strip, has played a role in early contacts between the Trump administration, which took office on January 20, and Moscow, helping to secure a prisoner swap last week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also in the region. Zelensky, who arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, said he also intended to visit Saudi Arabia and Turkey, but no dates were set. He said he had no plans to meet Russian or U.S. officials and Ukraine is not believed to be invited to the Saudi-hosted talks.

Earlier reports said that the Trump administration aims to reach a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine by Easter, which falls on April 20.
