Zelensky in Paris: Growing number of countries ready to offer Ukraine security guarantees
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a press conference following the meeting of leaders on support for Ukraine and security in Europe, which took place in Paris, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Much attention is now being paid to the issue of the future infrastructure of security guarantees for Ukraine. We are defining this with President Macron and Prime Minister Starmer, as well as with other leaders. An important part of this infrastructure is our army, its financing, and the strengthening of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” he said.
According to him, the joint work of European states and their leaders in this direction is a certain emphasis on the fact that “Russia cannot dictate the size of our army, neither now nor in the future.”
“The enemy cannot dictate the rules for the defense of Ukraine. And it is important that the aggressor has no support in this direction. In Europe, we see that they have no support. At least, the entire coalition that met today supports that Ukraine must maintain a strong army, one that is currently countering the Russian invasion,” the head of state emphasized.
At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that it was important for the United States to have the same attitude, “so with today's meeting we are also sending a signal to the United States and other countries.”
“In addition to our army and security guarantees, this also applies to the contingent. There are many proposals from leaders. We can say that there are more of them. The number of countries that are ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees and send their contingent is increasing, whether in the sky, air defense, land or sea. The number of such countries is growing. This is good news,” the President emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that a Franco-British mission could be sent to Kyiv, which could be joined by other partners, to determine what could be done to support the Ukrainian army, as well as “to look at the basis that Ukraine has prepared.”
“I think the summit was very motivating. Thank you again to Emmanuel (French President Emmanuel Macron) for organizing it. I believe that my dialog with the leaders is motivating. The leaders are all charged. I believe that the leaders are not abandoning us, but will support Ukraine. This is a bad signal for Putin,” he said.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is not going to give up its lands and give up its independence.
As Ukrinform previously reported, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a press conference after the summit in Paris that a French-British group of military officers would go to Ukraine to work out the format of training for the Ukrainian army in the future.
