Romania decides to continue military support for Ukraine
This was reported by Romania Journal with reference to a press release from the Romanian presidential administration, Ukrinform learned.
It is noted that this was the first meeting of the CSAT after Ilie Bolojan took office as acting president of Romania in February.
During the meeting of the Council, the developments in Russia's illegal and unprovoked war against Ukraine was analyzed. Particular attention was paid to the situation on the ground, as well as the stage and prospects of settlement negotiations, the press release says.
Romania welcomed the outcome of the recent ceasefire talks in Riyadh and the U.S. efforts in this direction, "as a first step towards reaching a peace agreement."
Romania, as a neighboring country, with the longest land and maritime border with Ukraine, is directly interested in ending the war. We want Ukraine to enjoy peace and to be able to follow its European path, in accordance with the decisions adopted at the level of the European Union. Our support for Ukraine will continue,” the press release of the Romanian President states.
The participants in the meeting also discussed strengthening defense on NATO’s eastern flank, agreeing on a gradual increase by Romania of the share of GDP spent on defense.
Following the meeting, the CSAT approved strengthening bilateral and allied coordination to strengthen deterrence and defense forces on the Alliance’s eastern flank, including the deployment of NATO forces in Romania, and the implementation of additional support measures for Ukraine in accordance with Allied decisions and international obligations.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on February 28, Romanian Acting President Ilie Bolojan suggested that the country become a hub for sending Western troops to Ukraine.
