Zelensky: "I got result that was needed" from his letter to Putin
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, the head of state said this during a joint press conference with the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries, answering a question about the President's expectations from the letter to the Kremlin leader.
Zelensky said that he had had a goal when he sent the letter to Putin and that he believed he had achieved the result he needed.
Zelensky clarified that through the letter he wanted to show different allies who is ready for peace and who is not.
In addition, Zelensky said that over the course of a month he sent several letters to various institutions, including the EU, Congress, and the President of the United States.
He added that he had had different objectives. Regarding the United States, he said that he had wanted to do everything possible to shift at least some of its focus from the Middle East to the situation in Ukraine. He noted that he did not want to and could not share all the details, but stressed that Ukraine needed a very significant amount of anti-ballistic capabilities. Zelensky said that he had obtained a result but could not disclose what it was at that time, adding that he had achieved what he set out to do.
As Ukrinform reported, on June 4 Zelensky wrote an open letter to Putin and proposed a personal meeting to end the war. He said such a meeting could take place in third countries that traditionally serve as venues for international negotiations.
Putin, commenting on the letter the following day, said he did not currently see any sense in meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
Zelensky said Putin's response to his open letter was weak and meant that Russia was once again choosing war.
