National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov sees no reason for the introduction of a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Danilov made the relevant statement in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, answering the question of whether Ukraine will be forced to go for ultimate coronavirus-related restrictions across country.

“We are not seeing yet that this lockdown will be introduced. Territorially, there will be certain restrictions. Volodymyr Oleksandrovych (Zelensky - ed.) chairs a big conference call on the issue every Monday. There, believe me, some harsh conversations take place, without hesitation in expression. That’s because many really can do more on this issue. But I’ll say it again, citizens' responsibility for their lives and health should be made an absolute must. This applies not only to COVID as can offer plenty of examples.

Answering the question of whether there is an outlook for how long the pandemic will last, Danilov noted: “The world believes that it will be over by next summer. There are still questions of what strains will emerge and how all this will be developing.”

As Ukrinform reported earlier, over the past day, October 24, Ukraine health officials confirmed 14,634 new COVID-19 cases, while 3,912 patients were hospitalized, 330 succumbed to the virus, and 4,598 recovered.
