Update on Russian invasion: Ukraine winning in areas of hostilities
Mykhailo Podoliak, Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, provides the latest update on the current situation in the areas of hostilities.
During a briefing at the President’s Office, he assured that Ukraine is winning, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to Podoliak, in the South of Ukraine – Kherson, Mykolayiv, Odesa – fierce military actions are ongoing. "It is clear why, because the Russian Federation considers this area is a priority. They wanted to gain a foothold there, but we see no hint that they succeeded. And they will not succeed," he said.
The Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine reiterated that Kyiv was a top priority 1 for the aggressor, as the key goal of the special operation of the Russian Federation is to destroy the political and military leadership of Ukraine. Podoliak stated that the situation in the city and its outskirts is under control. "The situation in the city: there are sporadic enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups against which the National Police representatives are working actively and representatives of territorial defense are working equally effectively. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are actively working on the outskirts of Kyiv," he said.
In turn, fierce fighting continues around Mariupol in the northern direction. Podoliak stressed that there is currently no chance that Mariupol will side with the Russian Federation or be captured by representatives of the Russian armed forces.
In addition, the adviser to the Head of the President’s Office added that air alert signals had been heard in many cities of Ukraine over the night because the Russian army uses artillery, including missile artillery, as well as aircraft to strike.
As of 07:00, February 26, the aggressor's armed forces did not receive any tactical and operational advantage, despite the amount of resources and reserves that had been "involved for the active actions of the Russian Federation."
"This shows that Ukraine has not just withstood, Ukraine is winning," Podoliak said.
As reported, the head of the aggressor country, Vladimir Putin, announced the start of a special military operation in Donbas on February 24.
Martial law has been imposed throughout Ukraine. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on general mobilization.
