Stefanchuk discusses sanctions against Russia, special tribunal, European integration with Irish PM
The speaker of the Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk said this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
Stefanchuk called the Irish Prime Minister's visit a "solidarity visit."
"Sanctions pressure on Russia, the issue of justice and bringing Russia to justice, Ukraine's European integration, and interparliamentary cooperation were the main topics discussed," Stefanchuk said.
According to the speaker, he emphasized that bringing Russia to justice in accordance with international law is one of Ukraine's priorities and stressed the importance of establishing a special tribunal for the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Stefanchuk called on Ireland to continue sanctions pressure on Russia to prevent any attempts by the aggressor country to "circumvent" the sanctions already in place.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Ireland for supporting Ukraine on its path to full membership in the EU and emphasized the importance of starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU this year.
"Finally, I thanked Ireland for its humanitarian and financial assistance to our country. I am grateful for the Ukrainians who have found temporary shelter in Ireland," the speaker said.
As reported, the Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar is on a visit to Ukraine.
At a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, he said that Ireland would allocate another €5 million for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and train Ukrainian sappers and military doctors.
