Ukraine’s air defenses down 50 missiles, 582 drones in massive overnight Russian attack
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Telegram, as cited by Ukrinform.
From 18:00 on June 14, Russia carried out a massive combined strike on Ukraine using various types of air-, ground- and sea-launched missiles as well as attack drones.
The main target of the attack was Kyiv, while missiles also targeted the cities of Dnipro and Kharkiv.
In total, Ukrainian radar systems detected 681 aerial threats, including 70 missiles and 611 drones.
These included six 3M22 Zircon anti-ship hypersonic missiles launched from occupied Crimea; 34 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions, and 30 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from the Vologda and Kursk regions.
The drone attack involved 611 UAVs of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, Banderol loitering munitions, and Parody decoy drones, launched from multiple Russian regions as well as occupied Crimea.
Ukrainian forces responded with aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.
As of 08:00 on June 15, Ukraine’s air defense forces had shot down or suppressed 50 missiles and 582 drones, including five 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles, 15 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 30 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles.
According to preliminary data, 20 ballistic missiles and 27 drones struck 42 locations, while debris from downed drones fell in 12 additional areas.
Several drones reportedly remained in Ukrainian airspace at the time of reporting.
As reported by Ukrinform, a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv overnight killed four people and injured at least 23 others, including a child.
